You're totally normal. I think it's biological. I never even really liked kids, but somewhere in my early 20s, I started thinking that having kids might be something I wanted to do, and not necessarily in the distant future! That said, I didn't have Sydney until I was 28. There was a lot of talking, thinking, and a couple of false starts before the pregnancy test came back positive. Plus Bill & I didn't get married until I was 25.

As for waiting until you're ready - believe me, you're never ready! But you make it work, no matter what the situation is, and it's wonderful. I am, however, glad that I waited until my late 20s to have kids. I was able to travel, be a crazy career-obsessed person for awhile, and enjoy a couple kid-free years of marriage.

Can you tell I have a lot to say on this subject? ;-)

You know me... I'm not really a girly girl. I never really had a thought on the baby subject either way, but a few years ago I had a miscarriage (not knowing I was pregnant), and I felt a huge sense of loss. Though now I'm back to not having a thought either way. I'm gonna wait until I find a man with good genetic material that's worthy of combining with mine. Brad Pitt's not returning my calls...

I was surprised at my high school reunion by how many women were married. I guess the whole marriage-children deal is what a lot of women want, and want to do it while they're still young. There's something to be said for that: my mom had me at 36, and I think I would've appreciated a mom with a bit more stamina.

Where was I going with this comment? No idea. I'll stop now.

i am totally with you on this post!! this year, from beginning to end, is filled with so many of my friends coming up to me and saying (with a gleam in their eye), "guess what???". i have never been to so many baby showers in one year. and i have a hunch that next year there may be more.

i'm 28 (married when i was 24) and i'm still not sure if i have a biological clock (maybe when you turn 30?!). but everyone having babies at least gives me an excuse to knit up cute little baby things. =)
